Professional Values and Practices

by studentteacher83 @ Wednesday, 07. Dec, 2005 - 21:17:46

It had to happen eventually...

Yesterday I said the f-word in front of a pupil. Fortunately the it was in the context of "I fxxxed up" rather than "shut the f*** up, you annoying little sxxx". So at least it doesn't come under the category of professional misconduct, so much as professional brain mis-fire.

never admit to f$#king up as they have something on you for ever.

That's unprofessional!?! When I was at college, my tutors used that word most of the time!

Hi'
I'm actually starting to hear more and more teachers using the 'f' word in school. Whether it be in the staffroom to let off steam or just in earshot of the pupils. I detest the flagrant use of the 'f' word or any swear-word from children in your earshot - it's just disrespectful. Problem is, many don't see it as disrespectful but as a normal part of life. Ironically you may have elevated yourself to 'cool' status amongst the kids. They see that you're human. That also spells trouble because you can't be human as a student or the b*stards will p*ss all over you. Don't drop your guard and close rank on yourself. Remember, you never f*cked up, you m*cked up! Enjoy the hols.

More stamina needed it - work on that part of your brain that keeps your real thoughts under control and replaces them with teacherspeak, eg "Would you do that on home?"

Don't fookin' do it again!

Yeah, I'm trying to concentrate more when talking to pupils. Trouble is if you ask them "would you do that home" i bet most of them where i'm at at the moment would reply yes in most instances, except for if you were asking them if they were doing some work.
