My Name Is...

by studentteacher83 @ Thursday, 08. Dec, 2005 - 19:31:23

Why are pupils so obsessed with finding out teachers' first names?

Pupils: "What's your real name sir?"
Me: "You think I'm using a pseudonym?"
....
Blank Expressions
....
Me: "A made up name."
Pupils: "Steve, Barry, Chris, it's Chris isn't it?"
Me (smiling): "Nope" (it really isn't)
Pupils: "Christopher, Oi! Chris!"
Me (shakes head and goes to talk to less nosey pupils)
Pupils: "Eugene?"
Eugene?!?
If only they were so enthusiastic about finding out about maths.

I have a name badge on my desk which has my first name on it. That way I never get all that 'investigation' crap. Having said that I probably wouldnt have if I was a Cecil or Cuthbert

How dare you even think they'd let you teach them?!!! My class was always like that with our student teachers. We also took the piss out of them and never did as we were told. We once reduced one to tears and slowly but surely they all gave up and moved away. Now i'm in teaching myself and i wish i'd never been such an arsehole! Don't give up and good luck X

My real name can be easily ridiculed and I have to wear a badge with my name on it in bold letters. I hate it when complete strangers address me by my christian name as if we are long lost buddies and 'kids' snigger as they pass me by!
The price of being a Store Greeter eh!

So....Did they every get your name, or is it now part of the national curriculum, each week, 10 minutes with Sir, guessing his name. You could even make it cross-curricula (or is it curriculi?) Maths and English say? But then it would become part of the school target setting, the governors would have to find out and start doing classroom visits, to "observe" (as if you poor teacher don't have enough of that)your name finding lessons, to make sure they can tick all the right boxes. Of course then the LEA would have to be informed that extra financing would be required, for a classroom assistant to help with this vital part of the curriclum, but what does it go down on, in the school budget, can it be viaed (is that spelling correct) between different budget headings. Then of course if you didn't get your classroom assistant, the parent would have to travel to Downing street with a pertition for President Blair.

So just tell them what your name is, I can't carry this one on much longer.

Happy Holidays
