PSHE Day

by studentteacher83 @ Wednesday, 21. Nov, 2007 - 19:49:19

I'm well used to PSHE days now having been through a full year's cycle of them with a year seven form. I'm repeating them this year with my very own form. The older years were doing about sex-related things, but as you would imagine year sevens concentrate on more innocent things like designing and marketing a sweet.

This doesn't mean the day is free from innuendo. One group came up with an idea for a chocolate bar that's 'like an explosion in your mouth'. I doubt I'd have picked up on it if another group hadn't decided on the name 'Hucker bar'. Which I'm sure is the name of somewhere in Amsterdam.

I couldn't talk to a class full of kids about sex mate, big up to you for that! I'd be embarrassed as fuck!

Luckily I don't have to yet. The next one is about health though so I have to do some stuff about looking after your... bits.
Ugh!

My visit to Amsterdam must've been relatively innocent then; you're not thinking of 'hustler' by any chance? Then again, a Hukka, if I have spelt that correctly, could refer to the war dance that's meant to put the fear of god into the team opposing the NZ rugby team.

My trip to Amsterdam was actually fairly innocent. I wasn't really sure where to look when walking through the red light district, it was a weird place.

The Red Light district of A'dam is a weird place especially in daylight. The curren Mayor of the city has decided it is time for a clean up and many of the 'windows' are going to be demolishing to make way for good shopping and housing. It sounds like there will be a smaller and more controlled red light area, but I do not know if it will take the same form.

Of course, it raises other issues which I won't discuss here as it remains to be seem whether or not the reduction in facilities will be cause for concern or not.

I LOVE pshe days! My form have this tradition where we have this huge bet on which of us can make the teacher the most uncomfortable in the fastest time. I ALWAYS lose, ahahaha.

I think most teachers are virtually immune to being embarrassed by that sort of thing - especially after you've taught the same stuff a few times. Let's face it the teachers going to know more that what most kids think they know, well in theory anyway!

In the pub last night after a few pints a friend of mine asked if I'd had to teach sex education, as he'd heard kids only did it in science lessons.

I recall becoming irrate at the mere thought of PSHE and having to be calmed down and the subject changed.
