Performance Management

by studentteacher83 @ Friday, 14. Mar, 2008 - 19:53:43

We are set performance management targets each year to make sure that we're not completely incompetent. These are discussed with someone in the chain of command, usually the head of department. My target was based on my year eleven class and was to obtain at least eight grade Cs.

Except when the official documentation came to me today it was for eight pupils to get at least grade V, which means the only way I could fail would be if thirteen of my class didn't show up to the exam and ended up with Xs. If I actually had a target like that i ought to feel confident but the way my year elevens are at the moment I'd still be nervous.

I assume there is no grade V or X really, or is there? You would have to be bad to miss those targets :)

Well they could get Xs if they don't actually show up, so I'm nto taking anything for granted

Today several of my Year 3 kids failed to count to 5 accurately
I think I'm going to cry...

Does that mean they don't actually know how old they are?

Ho ho, what a typo! Setting these targets used to annoy me. I felt like saying my annual target was to 'do the best I can'. I once had 'learning how to use Powerpoint' as a target. Hoops to jump through like a performing dog.

These targets can seem a little contrived, but I suppose they have a purpose. The whole school has a target to do with using different learning styles, encouraging independent learnign and high challenge. It's one of those things where we really ought to be doing it anyway but I guess a little reminder doesn't hurt.

It just goes to show what a joke the whole performance management charade actually is!

Does anyone even check if you've met the targets?
